Can A Skillset Be Problematic?

A colleague once warned me: “Teaching people how to communicate without the right mindset can be dangerous.” That idea stuck with me — and shaped the design of a workshop I led recently on How to Have Difficult Conversations.
We focused not just on what to say in tough conversations, but on the preparation and post-conversation reflection that make all the difference. A few takeaways:
· Moral high ground rarely leads to progress.
· You can’t control the other person’s reaction.
· Avoidance brings short-term relief but is guaranteed to makes things harder later.
· Fear is normal — lean into it. Most of us never learned healthy conflict skills as kids.
Here’s the truth: avoided conversations don’t disappear — they compound.
👉 What makes difficult conversations hard for you?
👉 If you’re ready to equip your team with the skills and mindset to tackle them, let’s talk about bringing this half-day, practice-based workshop to your organization.
